BABY MAMA EPISODES 10-13

EPISODE 10

Nigerian Jazz plays in soft tunes in the background from Tasha's phone on the bed as Tasha is coming straight out of the bathroom. Her white towel ties firmly around her chest while she unties the one wrapped on her head to let down her curly weave.

Her fair face is expressionless as thoughts of leaving the room, in search of that waitress, taunts her. She lowers herself onto the bed, backing the room's door, yet the rays of the afternoon Sun, reaching her, through the balcony's glass doors, causes her to squint.

As she lies sideways, flashes of her as Ovie's bride replays.

The voice of the priest airing the vows resounds,

'Would you take Ovie Itutumenitaziba, to be your lawful wedded husband,
To love and to cherish,
For richer for poorer
In sickness and in health...'

'For richer for Poorer' Tasha repeats

'Who even introduced that line?', She sighs.

She could hear the door lock turn so she quickly shuts her eyes pretending to be asleep, while Engr Kabar walks in and pecks her on her cheek. She stretches out slowly and opens her eyes.

'Welcome, how was the meeting?' Tasha asks, faking a sleep-stricken voice.

'It went well.  I kept thinking about you the whole time and my baby. I hope he is fine in there?' Engr Kabar touches her tummy.

'Yes, he's fine.' Tasha manages a smile.

                        ***

Now is the perfect moment, Tasha thinks as she's alone in the hotel room and Engr Kabar has just hurried off to another meeting.

She opens the door now clad in Jean shorts and a floral chic top. She sounds terrified as she beckons on Engr Kabar's guard who is standing on the hotel's suite passageway.

'There's a rat under the chair!' Tasha wisphers, fidgeting.
'A rat?'
' You heard me!' Tasha fires at him and watches how he hurries towards her and enters the room, to confirm.

'What would a rat be doing in a nice hotel suite, in Bahamas?' The guard questions stooping down to scan under the cozy leather chair.

'It's same question I asked myself but then if rats can find their way into presidential villa back in nija, Bahamas can’t be any different! '

He gazes up at her with disgust and sighs.

'Ma'am there's no rat!'

' I saw one! Ok, how did those shredded papers surface around that corner? ' she points under the chair and while he bends, she snatches the heavy flower vase on the table and hits his bare head.

She rushes out of the room without even minding how hard he hit the floor and is panting while double checking that the room's door is firmly locked.

 'Hello ma'am, is everything alright?'

Still Panting fast, Tasha turns around to meet the dark petite waitress staring at her, puzzled.

EPISODE 11

Tasha scratches her weave while rubbing her tummy.

'Ehn... I... I need to pay a visit to the antenatal or just a good medicine store.  Can you help me out with your cell, Please?' Tasha pleads and pretends to be in pains as the idea just struck in her mind.

'Oh, I'm sorry ma'am.  But management would fire me if I'm found... But you're in pains, right?'

The waitress looks around the lonely walkway and dips her hands quickly into the sides of her hotel's dress pocket and gets it out.

'Damn management! ' The waitress smiles.

Tasha takes her cell phone and nods.

'Thanks. What's your name?' Tasha questions while dialing Ovie's line.

' Kelechi!' She pronounces with some strain.

Tasha opens her mouth wide.

'You're Nigerian! Gosh We're sisters!'

The waitress keeps smiling.

'That's my native Nigerian name, my mom is Nigerian! It's so fascinating having dual citizenship!  My dad is Kenya!'

The phone rings for a while and stops.

'Really that's nice... Ehn, do you mind me leaving a message? An audio message'

'Alright ma'am but I can help you get a doctor. If it's that serious!'

'No, I'll just contact... ehn can I just go over there. This is private!' Tasha pleads.

'Ok. Be really quick!' The waitress steps back and focuses on the arranging the used ceramic plates she was wheeling before she ran into Tasha.

Tasha wisphers clearly into the phone, at the corner she's standing.

'Ovie it’s me, Tasha. Don't border about me. I'm fine where I am.' Tasha takes a deep breath.

'At least, ehn...Don't try calling this number either. Bye! ' Tasha sends her message and beckons on the waitress.

'Thanks!' She returns her phone with a smile.

                        ***

At the Club, The D. J is having Nigerian jams blasting around the bubbling club space.

Ovie takes his shot of whiskey at the bar section and drops his tot next to four other empty tots.

Dayo who's sitting next to him shakes his head.

'So, Tasha was cheating on you all along!  Gosh, women are bitches!  After they'll say we are the ones with the problem!'

Dayo's fist tightens on the table.

'I can't believe she fooled me. What happened to martial vows? How did she just throw all what we had, away! '

'But why would she cheat on you? Is it pay back for making her stop modelling? I'm trying to join the dots here!' Dayo adds letting go his tight fist.

'Payback!' Ovie sniffs and rubs his own head in despair.

'Should a married woman even model? Besides she promised to stop once we got married.' Ovie laments taking his hands off his head and gazes at his friend whose gaze is drifting.

Dayo's gaze meets the exact lady in red he met the last time they hit the bar but this time she was alone and on a blue tight-fitting short dress.

'Better now or never!' Ovie advices with a nod in her direction.

Dayo smiles and gets to his feet, advancing towards her.

'Excuse me a sec pretty Lady! ' Dayo stops her in her tracks.

She smiles and greets.

'Hello Dayo!'

Dayo's eyes goes wide open.

'How come you already know my name?'

EPISODE 12

Thelma laughs briefly flashing Her beautiful dimples on her flashy glammed up face. She's a tall, curvy and model like beauty.

'Don't be surprised! This club house is a small space not to know. Besides you and your friend created a scene when you hit Engr Kabar's guard.  We all saw that!' Thelma winks at him.

Dayo smiles sheepishly scratching his head and staring back at Ovie.

'Eh....ehn!' He stammers while Ovie shrugs his shoulders at him.

'So, you're going to buy me a drink today?' Thelma asks reverting his gaze back to her pretty face.

'Sure! Sure!' Dayo nods as He stares at her smiling sheepishly.

'Thank you! Let's have it at your table then, with your friend over there, Ovie. He seems quite wrecked!' She blasts her gum starring at Ovie as His gaze is fixed on them.

Dayo stammers looking back at Ovie and then at her again.

'Ehn... I... I didn't get your name.'

'Thelma!'

'Wow. Sure! Let's get you a drink' Dayo nods smiling sheepishly.

                           ***
At the Hotel, A bang is being heard from inside Tasha's room where Tasha is facing the waitress.

Tasha's eyes go wide open.

'Who's in there?' The waitress asks Tasha with her eyes wide open.

'Ehn! Who? I guess something must have dropped in there. Let me check it out!' Her arms are trembling trying to open up her room door then she stops.

'Maybe I can have that checkup now. Do you mind helping me out?'

'Sure ma! Let's get going!' The waitress responds.

They stop as they meet Engr Kabar's other guards advancing towards them, angrily.

'What were you trying to do, Tasha?' The head guard yells in her face.

Tasha's eyes go wide open.

'Ah! Ah!' Tasha holds her tummy, bending and writhing in pain, in pretense.

'We need to get her to the hospital! ' the waitress suggests. Her big eyes staring straight at them like they've lost their minds.

'Stay out of this! If you love yourself and your job?' The other guard fires at her.

'Yes Sir!' The waitress replies fidgeting and hurries off.

'We must alert Engr Kabar at once!' The other Guard adds staring at Tasha with disgust as she bends in pain.

EPISODE 13

At the Club,

While Dayo and Thelma approaches Ovie at the bar section.

'Hello Ovie' Thelma extends her arms to Ovie.

'Hello. You look stunning!' Ovie compliments her while Dayo places their order.

'Much more than your wife, Tasha? How's her life now as Baby Mama?'

Ovie spills his drink from his mouth

'Baby mama?' Ovie's eyes fill with shock.

'What?' Dayo yells

While Thelma smiles at them.

Flying at a fairly high altitude.

Tasha sits next to Engr Kabar in the chopper feeling humbled, like the little houses and their roof tops she observes while looking out the window. She recalls the day she signed her first model deal and fulfilled her childhood dream.

'You are stubborn and you love to play with fire! I can no longer curtail your attitude! I give you all you want and you decided running away is the best option? Who runs away from luxury?

Engr Kabar yells cut short her reverie.

Tasha turns and stares hard at him without blinking and then returns her gaze to the world outside the chopper's window.

Soon, they arrived Nigeria and after he had dropped her off her duplex in the estate, she races off to a phone shop to get herself a new phone.

She gets to retrieve all her numbers and immediately dials Ovie's number but it's switched off.

'Gosh! Exams is this week. Thank God I have enough money to settle my lecturers. At least that's one luxury this life affords me.' She voices standing in front of the massive phone shop with thick glass doors.

She braces her steps and gets into the sleek jeep Engr Kabar got her.

At school, she drives pass a group of religiously dressed set of girls and falls into another reverie of how she used to be when she first began university, then how she met Ovie and her memories take a wild turn back to reality.

'I wonder how Thelma's model life is now after she was beat at her own game by her own convert. I bet she'll never forget what I did to her! See how my life turned out better than hers.  Poor girl!' She stares into her car side mirror, dresses her curls a little and smiles.

Tasha parks her car at their administrative block's car park and steps out. Some familiar course mates hail her though her focus reverts when she sights Hajia passing by, totally ignoring her.

Guilt pricks her but then she thinks, 'What if Ovie knows nothing! No, what if Ovie came to Hajia, looking for me!' She soloquizes.

'No, I can't bring myself to talk to Hajia!' Tasha battles the thought within her.
